Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine  

Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine 

The head shrine in Tenman-gu which worships the Michizane Sugawara as "God of Scholarship". At the New year day about 2 million people come to worship. The main shrine is the important cultural property of a country. When the taking-an-examination season comes, many prep students come to worship.
Umegae Rice Cake (made from glutinous rice, and bean jam was put in it and baked) is famous.

     
Kanzeonji Houzou  

Kanzeonji Temple  30 min. walk

Kanzeonji temple appearing in "The tale of Genji" . The temple built for Seimei Emperor by Tenchi Emperor. It was completed in Nara Period. In those days this temple was the central temple of all the temples in Kyushu.
The bell(the national treasure) is famous. Many treasure including the Batokannon statue is exhibited in Houzou.

Kaidan In  

Kaidanin  25 min. walk

Kaidanin of the Chikushi Goddess-of-Mercy temple was found in 761A.C. It was an important institution for monks and nuns to received the commandment which should follow. One of the 3 Kaidan it is known with Kaidan of Todaiji in Yamato, and Yakushi-ji in Shimotsuke. The present buildings build Genroku Era and was restored in 1994. Rushanabutsu(stature) is an important cultural property. It beccome a Zen temple now, every the 1st Sundays and the 2nd Sundays Zazen meeting is held.

It was built in the late 7th Century. Yamato Imperial Court established it as a defensive point for western Japan. The ruins are second in size only to Heijyokyo and Heiankyo.
.This is the place citizens can be relaxed. It is called in the name of Tofurou-ato. It is colored with cherry blossoms in spring, and with red and yellow leaves in autumn.

     
Ruins of Mizuki  

Ruins of Mizuki   10 min. walk

The special historic relics of a country, the defense facilities "Mizuki(Water Fortress)" was built against the attack of Tang and Silla Kingdom in the 7th century.
It is mound piled up by person's hand, 1.2km long, 80m width.

Kyushu National Museum 

The fourth National museum built in Japan, is opening on Oct.
Inside of the museum, there are full of the treasures collected from the east and the west! The Cultures of Japan and the Asian courtiers can be studied.
